Today we know what it means to develop our professional skills, to grow professionally and to put effort into our daily workWe are part of a knowledge-rich core of activity pursuing a common goal; “To reach the top of our professional career”.

Throughout this growth process, we surround ourselves with our managers, directors, employees and, above all, colleagues. After all, they are the people who nurture the system of your company and bring it to the peak of its potential.

It is said: “All for one and one for all”

Companies offer products or services that require a previous procedure and a consensual work to achieve their final effect. But what is behind all this process? Who are the people who make sense of our system?

At WIMMIC we work side by side and give special importance to our employees. It is necessary to remember who is “Behind the circuits” and what their concerns are.

Our team is made up of several engineers, including Sergio Mateos Angulo, an IC designer who works from schematic to layout level.

Sergio started as an intern at the University Institute for Applied Microelectronics (IUMA) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2015. He was part of the Institute until 2019, first as a contract researcher on a project basis and then as a pre-doctoral research staff trainee while pursuing his doctoral studies. At that time, he joined WIMMIC as a design engineer.

“One of my main aspirations within the company is to continue learning and acquiring knowledge”, says the engineer. “I prioritise experiences that will allow me to become the best engineer I can be”

As for his future plans, he would like to continue working at WIMMIC for many years to come. Sergio adds: “That would mean being able to work on what I like in Gran Canaria and continue to grow within the company”.

Being able to work with his colleagues allows him to learn on a day-to-day basis and to develop as a professional. “This kind of work requires a lot of patience, he stresses, as designing and verifying integrated circuits often implies long simulating times and analysing results, which are not always easy to evaluate”. In the end, this is necessary for an optimal result.

Moving away from the professional sphere, our colleague likes sports, in particular basketball. “I have a first-level qualification as a basketball coach for kids” he confesses. He also enjoys watching TV series and films, listening to music and reading interesting fantasy books.

In the attempt to go deeper, all of us at some point in our lives identify with different experiences or thoughts that help us to be the way we are today. If we could sum it up in one sentence our colleague adds: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”.

Taking perspective perfectly defines the way he works day by day and the constancy with which he keeps one of our pillars afloat.
